Wit Studio has announced the tentative release of both Spy x Family season 2 and a new original movie, with a projected release date in the fall of 2023. The production team, led by Tetsuya Nakatake, one of the co-founders of the studio, attended the 2023 Taipei International Comics & Animation Festival where they shared some behind-the-scenes information about the first season.
During the festival, Chief Animation Director Kyoji Asano and Nakatake discussed their creative approach to Episode 5, which was an anime-original episode. The team aimed to add more battle-style sequences and depicted Anya, one of the characters, with maximum adorableness.
Asano shared his delight in creating Anya’s iconic expressions, including her hand reaching out to the door in the second ending theme song, her panic-stricken face during the entrance exam to Eden Academy, and her emotional faces as she mourned Agent Penguin’s second death and schemed.
Asano also shared his joy in drawing these expressions, which were showcased on a dedicated wall during the festival. Nakatake couldn’t contain his laughter upon seeing the wall and pointing out several of Anya’s expressions.
The production team’s passion for their work is evident and fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the new movie and second season. The team’s dedication to creating unique, creative, and elaborate content has made Spy x Family a highly anticipated anime series.
